The Demo Day, held in Lagos on July 21, 2026, marked the culmination of a 12-week venture-building programme that brought together founders developing products designed to shape culture through technology. The event attracted investors, ecosystem stakeholders, and partners interested in emerging startups addressing underserved markets within Africa’s faith and values-driven economy.

Rather than operating as a traditional accelerator, Greylight positions itself as a venture builder that works alongside founders from the earliest stages of company creation, providing execution support, leadership development, and strategic capital to help ventures mature into scalable businesses.

Six startups tackle underserved markets

The first Tangent cohort featured startups spanning education, AI, creator economy infrastructure, knowledge management, and digital faith experiences.

Auxtoria, founded by Gbugbemi Makpokpomi and Ugochi Onwukwe, is building a platform that helps African children between ages 5 and 12 learn biblical values through interactive stories, games, and educational content.

Audora, founded by Tolani Abiodun, is developing a marketplace connecting independent African musicians with influencers to simplify music promotion and audience growth.

AyaMatch, created by Philip Chime and Daniel Ayeni, is a faith-based dating platform designed for Christians seeking long-term relationships. The platform combines psychometric assessments with identity verification to improve compatibility and trust.

Poysis, founded by Armstrong Olusoji, focuses on enterprise knowledge management by transforming sermons, legal documents, institutional knowledge, and internal resources into searchable AI-powered knowledge archives.

Shama, developed by Victor Wave, provides ministries with a dedicated audio platform that enables them to host and distribute content independently, reducing reliance on third-party platforms and addressing concerns about censorship, algorithm changes, and content ownership.

SpiritOS, founded by Prince Tutu, offers an AI-assisted devotional platform that personalises Bible study, prayer, journaling, and spiritual reflection for individual users.

Betting on culture as an investment thesis

Greylight’s approach reflects a growing belief that technology can influence cultural adoption as much as commercial outcomes.

Delivering the keynote at the Demo Day, Joba Adejumo, Managing Partner at Greylight, argued that distribution remains one of the strongest forces shaping modern culture.

“Whatever becomes culture today, whatever becomes normalised today, is essentially what is most effectively distributed.”

The statement captures Greylight’s broader investment philosophy: backing founders building platforms capable of influencing how people learn, create, communicate, worship, and consume digital experiences.

A niche but growing opportunity

While African venture capital has largely concentrated on fintech, logistics, commerce, and enterprise software over the last decade, sectors such as creator technology, digital media, education, and faith-tech remain relatively underfunded despite serving millions of users across the continent.

Globally, investors have shown increasing interest in vertical AI products, creator infrastructure, digital communities, and specialised software. Greylight appears to be applying a similar thesis locally by supporting founders building products for communities often overlooked by mainstream startup funding.

Several startups from the inaugural cohort also integrate artificial intelligence into their products, reflecting the broader trend of AI becoming foundational infrastructure rather than a standalone product category.

Looking ahead

Greylight says it partners with founders beyond this phase, combining capital, venture-building support, and leadership formation to help startups scale sustainably.

The firm has indicated that Tangent Cohort 2 is expected to launch around September 2026, with applications anticipated to open soon.

For founders building at the intersection of technology, media, entertainment, and culture, the programme could represent another emerging pathway into Nigeria’s evolving startup ecosystem.
